Family Counsellor
Meet April, a Family Counsellor and advocate for young people and their families.
When young persons and their families experience trauma and/or life stressors, it is not uncommon for their lives to fall apart. It has been my great passion to be their advocate, their voice, all whilst helping them heal. I have helped my clients, primarily children and youth, find a healthy perception of themselves, so they can reconcile and get to know themselves as peaceful, whole and safe.

As a Family Counsellor with the CRPCN, I offer short-term counselling, consultation, clinical clarification, specialized referrals and support for young persons between the ages of 7-17, who are experiencing mental health difficulties. In this role, I provide an initial assessment with 5-6 counselling sessions targeted at providing the skills necessary to manage. I also provide parenting support and education, using a holistic approach.

I have been trained in various therapeutic modalities and interventions, noting there is no single approach right for every one person. I am trained and utilize Behavior Modification, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused and Play Therapy techniques.

Referrals come from the family doctors who are part of the CRPCN Practice in Okotoks & Black Diamond.
